Dr. Kanica Rakhra

Dr. Rakhra is a former Fellow at the Harvard led-Arms Control Negotiation Academy (ACONA), the Asian Global Institute at University of Hong Kong, and the Middlebury Institute for International Studies in Monterey U.S.A. As an ICSSR Doctoral Fellow, she holds a PhD from the Center for International Politics, Organization, and Disarmament (CIPOD) in Jawaharlal Nehru University, India.

Prior to academia, Dr. Rakhra was working with the Indian Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) on multilateral issues such as counter-terrorism, maritime security, nuclear disarmament, non-proliferation, export controls, sanctions,and international security.

She was part of India’s G20 Presidency in the G20 Secretariat, engaging in discussions and negotiations with G20 representatives. She has also participated in a number of Track 1.5 and Track 2 dialogues.

A former MYL, at the Munich Security Conference, Germany, Dr Rakhra’s repertoire of published work includes journals, book chapters and articles. She has been featured in Voice of America, BBC News, Ming Pao, Economic Times and Forbes. Her co-authored book titled ‘Emerging from the Shadows: Essays on Disarmament by Indian Women’ has recently been published by Routledge.
